The Chiltern League Race 3 is next Saturday, 1 December 2018, at Stopsley Common, St. Thomas’s Road, Stopsley, Luton LU2 7UX.

The first thing to check is whether you have you registered with us for this season’s Chiltern League races? If you plan to run in any of the Chiltern League races this season please click here to complete our online registration form by Thursday 29th November (if you haven’t done so already!).

Travel information

The address is Stopsley Common, St. Thomas’s Road, Stopsley, Luton LU2 7UX

Directions from the M1 – Leave the M1 at J10 and follow the signs to the Hitchin. Crossing the traffic lights on Airport Way, take the right-hand lane, sign posted Hitchin (A505). At the fourth round- about turn right, keep to the left and take the next left into Stopsley village. At the War Memorial turn left into St. Thomas’s Road and follow through to the common entrance.
From Hitchin (A505) – Turn right off the A505 into Stopsley Village. At the War Memorial turn right into St. Thomas’s Road and follow through to the common entrance.
From Bedford (A6) – Approach Luton town centre, turn left into Stockingstone Road (cricket ground in front of you). At the top of Stockingstone Road filter left onto Hitchin Road. Follow Hitchin Road to the round-about keep to the left and take the next left into Stopsley village. At the War Memorial turn left into St. Thomas’s Road and follow through to the common entrance.
Parking will be on hard standing within the park or at Stopsley High School opposite the entrance to the common or at the football academy adjacent to the school. It is recommended to avoid the narrow roads in the park particularly if you intend to leave early. Gates shut automatically at 4.30pm. Please avoid parking at the swimming pool. 

Arrival

Please remember to arrive at the St Albans table one hour before your race, allowing time for parking and walking into the tent – please see the timetable here.

Volunteers for tent and registration

We would prefer to take a club tent – as this makes it easier to keep bags dry, giving runners a base – so we would appreciate if parents of younger runners would take the tent (stored at the track) and older athletes could bring it back. Please contact Deborah or Peter to arrange pick up of the tent.

We also have a volunteer rota for registration. We ask that every parent / carer of anybody running in the Chiltern League races covers at least one of these tent or registration slots during the 5 matches.

The Course

There have been changes made to the courses this year which will be mainly on grass with some stony tracks.

14.00: Junior Men/Senior Men

Facilities

Portable toilets are provided as well as male and female changing and showering facilities in two pavilions. Tents will be in the area adjacent to the finish funnel. Refreshments will be available in the middle pavilion. St. John’s Ambulance will be in attendance.

Inhalers

If you have medication such as inhaler that may be required please run with it – in a belt or arm pocket etc.

Vests and numbers

Any member age 11 & over will need to run in a current St Albans AC or Striders Vest. 
All athletes under 20 are required to hand their number back at the St Albans registration desk after the race. If you do happen to go home with your number please return it in a named envelope FAO Fiona and handed to a coach at the next training session. Numbers contain timing chips – so please be careful with them as we get charged for lost/damaged numbers and this cost will have to be passed back to the athlete.
Older athletes who keep their own Chiltern League numbers (or people who accidentally took their number home) please don’t forget your number! If you have lost it, then please inform Fiona and arrive 1.5 hours before the race to allow time to get a new number. Unfortunately the athlete will need to pay the nominal cost for the new number.
