FUNETICS
IMPORTANT
Our 2026 Summer Funetics sessions are now fully booked with a long waiting list. Please check back in the Autumn when we will hopefully open the registration form again.
Introduction
Our Under 8s sessions for children in Reception – Year 3 are fun athletics sessions designed to develop children’s fundamental movement skills in running, jumping and throwing (all while doing games children enjoy).
They follow England Athletics’ Funetics program: www.englandathletics.org/funetics
Sessions are held during term time on a Sunday morning between 10-11am at the same time as the club’s Primary School aged 8 and over session.
Our main two blocks of Funetics sessions run throughout the Summer Term and the first half of the Autumn Term. Children in Year 3 are then able to continue to participate in Funetics sessions for the remainder of the Autumn Term and the Spring Term before joining the 8+ Primary School session in the Summer Term.
We have a fantastic team of qualified coaches, club activators and leaders who run the sessions, but parents/carers are expected to stay to cover emotional and toiletry needs. We also ask those with Reception-age children to stay close by to encourage participation in the activities.
To register your child(ren) for the latest/future block(s) of sessions please click the button below to REGISTER.
Our sessions - what to expect
During our main blocks of sessions, we utilise an area between the hammer cage and pole vault area specially for Funetics with grass, track and a sandpit in. We move onto the track for the Year 3 only sessions during the colder/wetter terms.
Children are expected to bring appropriate clothing and footwear for running, jumping and throwing in. All children should wear a hat/cap in sunny conditions and suncream should be applied before the session. Waterproof coats and warmer clothes should be worn on colder/rainy mornings. We suggest wearing layers that can easily taken off and do not restrict movement.
Full, labelled water bottles should be brought by the children and we will break regularly during the session for them to have a drink. Please no snacks or fizzy drinks.
All equipment will be provided and so children should not bring any equipment or toys etc.
Any medication should also be brought. Details of changes to medical needs/allergies since registering should be communicated ASAP, via emailing . Similarly emergency contact names & phone numbers.
